Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has strongly condemned the walkout staged by some women loyal to suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara during an event hosted by First Lady Oluremi Tinubu in Port Harcourt. In a statement issued through his aide, Lere Olayinka, Wike described the incident as a disgrace to Rivers State and apologized to the First Lady and President Bola Tinubu, stating that disrespect to her office equates to insulting the presidency.
Wike, currently on an official visit to China, criticized the women—allegedly led by sacked local government vice chairmen—for disrupting a programme meant to empower 500 women in the state. He called on Fubara to be sincere in his quest for peace, accusing him of supporting actions that undermine the same peace efforts he claims to pursue. Wike emphasized that he and his supporters disassociate themselves from the incident, labeling it a “show of shame” unreflective of Rivers State values.
