ValueJet Launches Direct Lagos-Banjul Flight to Boost Regional Ties

ValueJet has officially launched its inaugural flight from Lagos, Nigeria to Banjul, The Gambia, marking a significant step toward enhancing regional connectivity in West Africa. Managing Director, Capt Omololu Majekodunmi, highlighted the airline’s commitment to safe and efficient operations and expressed confidence in the success of the route, which is serviced by the CRJ-900 aircraft.

Capt Majekodunmi emphasized that ValueJet is the only carrier currently offering a direct flight between the two countries. He noted that the route would play a vital role in strengthening economic and trade ties while also promoting tourism. With competitive fares starting at N500,000, the airline aims to make intra-African travel more accessible.

The airline believes the Lagos-Banjul route offers significant opportunities for trade, investment, and cultural exchange, particularly given The Gambia’s growing tourism appeal and Nigeria’s vibrant business environment. The launch aligns with ValueJet’s broader vision of promoting regional integration and economic growth across West Africa.

The inaugural flight on May 15, 2025, was celebrated at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by dignitaries including Gambia’s ambassador to Nigeria, Mohamadou Musa Njie, and tourism officials from The Gambia. The Gambian government welcomed the initiative and pledged support for the airline and its passengers.
