The University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) has officially denied any affiliation with Cynthia Chukwundah, the woman accused of setting her lover, Sunny Amadi, ablaze in Choba, Rivers State. Initial police reports had identified Chukwundah as a 300-level undergraduate at the university.

According to the police, Chukwundah allegedly set fire to Amadi during a domestic altercation. The victim, who was reportedly 32 years old, later died from the injuries. Chukwundah, said to be pregnant with Amadi’s child, also sustained burn injuries and is currently hospitalised under medical observation pending interrogation.
In response to the public claims, UNIPORT issued a statement through its Head of Information, Dr. Sammy Kpenu, confirming that a thorough check of student records revealed no connection between the university and Chukwundah. The institution emphasized that she is not enrolled as a student.
The university expressed condolences to the affected families and affirmed its support for the ongoing investigation. UNIPORT also called on the media and public to verify information before spreading it, in order to avoid the spread of misinformation.
