Super Eagles Stopped Training Over Unpaid Allowances Before Crucial Gabon Match

Just two days before their crucial 2026 World Cup playoff match against Gabon, the Super Eagles players and team officials stopped training session on Tuesday in Morocco due to unresolved issues over unpaid allowances and bonuses owed to them from previous national team engagements.

A statement released by the team confirmed that the entire squad and support staff decided to stop training until the financial disputes are settled.

This development disrupts Nigeria’s preparations at a critical moment, raising optimism for a strong performance. However, the payment crisis has now overshadowed their preparations as Thursday’s match in Rabat could determine the country’s path to qualifying for the expanded 2026 World Cup.

The Nigeria Football Federation has not yet issued an official response, though discussions are reportedly ongoing to resolve the issue quickly.
