The CEO of ChatGP, Sam Altman said people sharing personal information with ChatGPT but eon’t know chats can be used as court evidence in legal cases.
During a recent appearance on TheoVon’s podcast , Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, warned that conversations with ChatGPT lack the same legal privacy protections as conversations with a therapist, lawyer, or doctor.
Altman noted that people, particularly younger individuals, are increasingly using ChatGPT for advice on personal and sensitive issues, treating it like a therapist or life coach.
He emphasized that unlike interactions with licensed professionals, which are protected by doctor-patient confidentiality or attorney-client privilege, chats with ChatGPT have no such legal safeguards.
According to Altman, this could pose a significant problem in legal proceedings, as OpenAI might be compelled to disclose user conversations if legally required.
He described the current situation as “very screwed up” and urged for the development of privacy regulations for AI conversations, similar to those that exist for traditional professional relationships.
