Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan Alleges Assassination Attempt, Calls for Reinstatement of Security Aides

Suspended Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, reported an attack by suspected gunmen on her family home in Obeiba-Ihima, Kogi State. The incident occurred during her younger brother’s visit to inspect a project site. Though no one was harmed, the house was vandalized. She believes the attackers assumed she was present. Akpoti-Uduaghan called on the Inspector-General of Police to restore her withdrawn security details, which were removed following her March 6 suspension from the Senate.

Her suspension stemmed from a dispute with Senate President Godswill Akpabio over a seating arrangement, which she claimed was retaliation for rejecting his alleged sexual advances. She has taken her complaints to both national and international platforms, citing political victimization. Meanwhile, the Senate asserts she was suspended for misconduct.

The conflict deepened as Akpoti-Uduaghan, Akpabio, and former Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello accused one another of orchestrating assassination plots, filing counter-petitions with the police.
