A chilling new crime trend has emerged in Imo State, as residents express growing concern over suspected cases of kidnapping linked to organ harvesting. The unease intensified after a man, Onyekwere Edward Emeka, narrowly escaped what he believes was an attempted abduction for organ trade. The incident occurred on May 28, 2025, when Emeka boarded a commercial bus in Owerri, only to lose consciousness shortly after giving the driver change.
Emeka later regained consciousness, finding himself tied and blindfolded in a bush in Ngor Okpala. His cries for help were answered by a passerby who, after hearing his story, helped untie him and led him to safety. The rescuer, wary of being implicated, declined to give his name but ensured Emeka was able to return to Owerri safely. The incident has since circulated widely, sparking panic and speculation.
Despite the gravity of the situation, Emeka chose not to report the matter to the police due to a lack of concrete details such as the vehicle’s number plate or the driver’s identity. He instead issued a public warning, urging people to remain vigilant. His reluctance highlights a deeper trust issue with law enforcement and the challenge victims face in pursuing justice in such cases.
