General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, revealed that God once gave him a stern warning not to leave the denomination or face the death of his firstborn. He shared this during the June Holy Ghost Service themed “Destined for Greatness (Part 2),” held at Redemption City, Ogun State. Adeboye spoke on divine direction and spiritual steadfastness, expressing concern over young Christians frequently switching churches and presenting themselves as first-time visitors at new congregations.

Reflecting on his own faith journey, Adeboye recounted that although several popular ministries were flourishing when he became born again, God specifically instructed him to remain with RCCG. At that time, RCCG was relatively unknown, and he was urged by God to serve under his spiritual mentor, despite his mentor’s lack of formal education. Adeboye, then a university lecturer, was told, “Son, I brought you here. This is where you will stay. The day you leave this denomination, your firstborn will die.”
He urged young believers to seek divine guidance and remain faithful in the church where God places them instead of chasing trends or personal preferences. “Discover where God wants you to stay, and stay there,” he advised, emphasizing the importance of spiritual commitment over frequent changes in church affiliation.
Pastor Adeboye also clarified that his message was not to suggest RCCG’s superiority over other denominations but to encourage steadfastness and obedience to divine direction. He stressed that the focus should be on faithfulness to God’s plan rather than comparisons among churches.
