The Nigeria Police Force has announced the reactivation of the Tinted Glass Permit (TGP) system nationwide, following directives from the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun. The process will now be handled digitally through a user-friendly portal at possap.gov.ng, aimed at addressing public concerns over police harassment related to tinted windows.

This renewed initiative responds to the growing use of factory-fitted tinted windows in modern vehicles and aims to balance public safety with legitimate use. The police noted that tinted vehicles have been frequently exploited for criminal activities such as kidna*ing, armed rbbery, and fr*ud, posing a challenge to law enforcement operations.
Under the new system, permit applications will require NIN and TIN verification, biometric data, and background checks, with digital permits issued within 72 hours. A 30-day compliance grace period will begin on May 1, 2025, after which enforcement will commence. Officers found guilty of misconduct during enforcement will face disciplinary action.
The IGP emphasized the Police Force’s commitment to leveraging technology for citizen-focused policing and called on the public to support the initiative for improved safety and accountability.
