The Ebonyi State Police Command said is awaiting the cooperation of the family of 26-year-old nurse, Miss Mary Habila, who reportedly died at the country home of the Minister of Works, David Umahi, to proceed with the post-mortem examination as part of its ongoing investigation.
Police spokesperson, SP Joshua Ukandu, disclosed that police received a distress call on June 27, 2026, after Habila was taken to the David Umahi Federal Teaching Hospital, Uburu, where she was confirmed dead.
According to the police, preliminary investigations revealed that Habila and a colleague were members of the medical team attached to the Minister of Works and had accompanied him to his hometown in Uburu. She reportedly died in a room within the compound of his residence, prompting the case to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a thorough investigation.
The command said detectives have visited the scene and obtained statements from relevant persons. Although the deceased’s family has declined the request for an autopsy, insisting it should not be carried out, the police maintain that a post-mortem examination is necessary to determine the true cause of death due to the sensitive nature of the case.
