PHED Blames Calabar Blackout on Severe Weather Conditions

The Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHED) has linked the recent power outage in Calabar and surrounding areas of Cross River State to heavy rainfall and a windstorm that occurred on May 7. According to Mrs. Olubukola Ilevbare, the Head of Corporate Communications, the adverse weather conditions between 4:45 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. that day caused extensive damage to PHED’s power lines and infrastructure.

The blackout has affected Calabar and neighboring Local Government Areas, leaving residents and businesses without electricity. PHED confirmed that their technical team is actively working to restore power and address the damage caused by the storm. The company has acknowledged the widespread impact and assured customers of ongoing repair efforts.

Mrs. Ilevbare expressed regret over the inconvenience caused by the blackout and extended sympathies to those whose properties were damaged during the storm. She appealed to customers for patience and understanding as PHED works to restore normal power supply in the affected areas.
