A 500-level student of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Victor Onakoya, has been arrested for his involvement in a fatal road accident that claimed the lives of a couple on Igan Road in Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State. The accident occurred when Onakoya’s Toyota Camry rammed into the couple’s motorcycle, resulting in the instant death of the female passenger.
The motorcyclist, who sustained serious injuries, was rushed to the hospital but later succumbed to his injuries. The couple, identified as Dare Adeyemi and Shadia Oshifuyi, were heading from Ago-Iwoye to B3 Junction when the accident occurred. Preliminary investigation revealed that the Toyota Camry driver lost control and veered off his lane, causing a head-on collision with the motorcycle.
The police intervened to prevent a mob from lynching Onakoya and took him into custody for further investigation. The student is currently being held at the police station, while the deceased persons were deposited at the General Hospital Morgue, Ijebu Igbo, for autopsy.
The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer has yet to respond to an enquiry on the incident. The case highlights the importance of responsible driving and the need for strict enforcement of traffic rules to prevent such accidents.
