Peter Obi has commended the Nigeria Police for withdrawing an invitation earlier extended to the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, over an alleged murder during Sallah celebrations.

The Labour Party’s former presidential candidate described the invitation as unnecessary and potentially inflammatory, given the current tensions in the country.
The Emir was reportedly summoned after a Durbar procession held despite prior warnings. Following public backlash, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, rescinded the invitation and directed the Kano State Police Command to handle the matter locally.
In a post on X, Obi praised the move and advocated for decentralised policing, saying it promotes peace and builds public trust.
