After months of delays, the Federal Government has finally begun disbursing the newly approved ₦77,000 monthly allowance for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members. The payment, which was approved in September 2024, is being released in phases, with corps members in Kwara, Kano, and Yobe among the first to receive their stipends. However, many are still awaiting disbursement.

NYSC Director-General Brigadier General Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu reassured corps members that all payments would be completed, while Minister of Youth Development Ayodele Olawande confirmed on Politics Today that the process was finalized and underway.
Although many corps members welcomed the long-overdue increase, reactions were mixed. Some expressed gratitude, joking about making future investments, while others criticized the amount as inadequate given the high cost of living. Stella Abiodun, a corps member, stressed that while the increase proves the government is responsive to pressure, continued advocacy is necessary for further improvements.
Despite the progress, uncertainty remains, as some corps members are still waiting for their payments, raising concerns about the full implementation of the allowance.
