NYC Gunman Targets NFL Office in Tragic Mistake, Leaves Four Dead

A tragic shooting occurred in Midtown Manhattan when 27-year-old Shane Tamura, a former high school football player, stormed a skyscraper housing the NFL headquarters and killed four people before taking his own life. Tamura, who drove from Las Vegas to New York, reportedly intended to target the NFL, blaming the league for brain damage he believed he suffered from football-related injuries. However, he mistakenly went to the wrong office after taking a different elevator and opened fire.

Among those killed was police officer Didarul Islam, who was working as a security guard at the time. He was praised as a hero for his bravery. Another victim was Wesley LePatner, a respected employee of finance firm Blackstone. Two other male civilians also died, and one NFL employee was seriously injured. President Donald Trump and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell both issued statements expressing condolences.

Mayor Eric Adams confirmed that Tamura left a note blaming the NFL for his condition, referencing CTE (chronic traumatic encephalopathy), a brain disease linked to repeated head trauma in contact sports. The note reportedly included a request to “study my brain” and ended with an apology. Tamura never played in the NFL but had played football in high school.

The attack caused panic in the area, with police evacuating and securing the skyscraper floor by floor. Witnesses described hearing gunfire and taking cover. The incident caused major disruption to public transport and left the city in shock.

Tributes poured in for the victims. Officer Islam, originally from Bangladesh, was remembered as a community leader and devoted family man expecting his third child. Blackstone honored LePatner as an admired colleague. Authorities are still investigating the full motive behind the attack and identifying the remaining victims.
