A devastating nightclub fire in Kocani, North Macedonia, has killed 59 people, many of them teenagers, and injured over 160.

The fire broke out at the Pulse nightclub during a concert, allegedly sparked by flares igniting a flammable ceiling. Investigations have revealed severe safety violations, including an overcrowded venue, a locked emergency exit, and a lack of fire prevention systems.
The tragedy has fueled nationwide outrage, with thousands protesting against corruption that allegedly allowed the illegally licensed club to operate. Authorities have detained 20 individuals, including the club owner and former government officials. Protesters, many of them grieving relatives, are demanding justice, with some targeting a bar linked to the club owner.
Officials suspect bribery played a role in the club’s operation. A nationwide demonstration has been called for Tuesday as the country observes a week of mourning.
