Nnamdi Kanu Seeks Transfer of Trial to South-East

Detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has requested that his trial be relocated to the South-East if no judge in Abuja, apart from Justice Binta Nyako, is willing to preside over the case.

His lead counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, conveyed this in a statement after meeting Kanu at the Department of State Services (DSS) facility in Abuja.

Justice Nyako had recused herself from the case on September 24, 2024, following Kanu’s expressed lack of confidence in her.

However, the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice John Tsoho, reassigned the case to her, a decision Kanu opposes, citing concerns over judicial integrity.

Kanu has directed his legal team to prevent Nyako from continuing with the case and to advocate for its transfer to a Federal High Court in the South-East, including cities such as Umuahia, Awka, and Enugu, where the alleged offenses took place.
