The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has warned it may begin a nationwide protest over the rising insecurity, hunger, and hardship in the country. After a meeting in Abeokuta, the NLC said Nigerian workers can no longer stay silent while the country continues to suffer. It blamed the government for failing to protect lives and demanded immediate action, warning that continued killings of farmers could soon lead to famine.

Leaders at the meeting said the security crisis is affecting every part of the country. One union member shared that many farmers are now afraid to go to their farms due to fear of being killed. The NLC said the government must stop making promises and instead take strong action to end the violence caused by armed herders and bandits.
The NLC also raised concerns about worsening poverty and high living costs. It said workers are suffering from rising food prices, expensive transport, and falling wages. Many Nigerians feel abandoned by the government, and the NLC called for urgent steps to help reduce the economic pressure on families.
Another major issue raised was a new plan by lawmakers to remove labour matters from the federal government’s control. The NLC said it would strongly resist this move and asked workers to prepare to protest against any lawmaker who supports it. They also called for changes in leadership selection and an end to vote buying during elections.
Lastly, the NLC accused some top government officials of keeping local government funds meant for councils in Osun State. It called for the immediate release of the money and warned of further action if this is not done. While it welcomed the government’s CNG bus donation, it asked for more support and promised to keep fighting for justice and workers’ rights.
