The Nigerian Army has cautioned individuals impersonating the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, on social media to desist or face strict consequences. In a statement issued by Maj.-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations, it was revealed that numerous complaints have been received regarding impostors using the COAS’s official portrait to mislead the public.

These fraudsters have adopted a new strategy of hosting virtual meetings on platforms such as Zoom, WhatsApp, and Facebook. Participants are manipulated into sharing specific screen numbers, which the impostors then exploit to defraud them. The army highlighted that specific phone numbers associated with the fraudulent activities have been identified, underscoring ongoing efforts to address the situation.
