Nigeria has extended condolences to Namibia over the death of Dr. Sam Nujoma, the country’s founding president and liberation hero. Nujoma, a revolutionary leader instrumental in Namibia’s independence from apartheid South Africa in 1990, passed away peacefully at the age of 95 in Windhoek.

Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, praised Nujoma as a visionary leader, Pan-Africanist, and relentless freedom fighter who championed justice, equality, and self-determination. Nujoma served as Namibia’s president for 15 years, promoting national unity and reconciliation, which fostered peaceful co-existence and economic development.
Tuggar highlighted Nujoma’s enduring friendship with Nigeria and his contributions to African solidarity. He reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening ties with Namibia during this time of mourning and described Nujoma’s legacy as a lasting inspiration for the continent.
Nujoma’s leadership laid the democratic foundation of Namibia and earned him global respect. Nigeria joins Namibia in mourning the loss of this iconic statesman, praying for his peaceful repose.
