Following a nationwide crackdown aimed at curbing fake institutions undermining Nigeria’s education system, 22 illegal Colleges of Education operating across the country has been uncovered and closed down by the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE).

In its recent achievements, the NCCE revealed that alongside the closure, it also conducted personnel audits and financial monitoring across all 21 federal colleges of education. These measures were designed to strengthen accountability and ensure that only credible institutions remain active.
President Bola Tinubu had earlier directed agencies like the NUC, NBTE, and NCCE to weed out unlicensed tertiary institutions. Speaking through a representative at the 14th convocation of the National Open University of Nigeria, he condemned “certificate millers” that compromise the credibility of higher education.
The President assured that his administration is committed to integrating all education-related agencies such as NYSC, JAMB, and NUC to improve quality and efficiency. He stressed that the fight against forgery and illegal institutions is central to protecting the integrity of Nigeria’s academic system.
