Namibia Set to Inaugurate First Woman President, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah

amibia will make history on Friday as it swears in Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah as its first female president, marking a new chapter in the country’s leadership. The 72-year-old leader, popularly known as NNN, secured victory in last year’s election, extending the ruling SWAPO party’s 35-year grip on power.

The inauguration ceremony will be attended by regional heads of state, including leaders from Angola and South Africa.

Nandi-Ndaitwah, previously Namibia’s vice president, has been a stalwart of SWAPO since the country gained independence from apartheid South Africa in 1990. She won the November election with 58% of the vote, defeating the opposition Independent Patriots for Change (IPC), which secured 25.5% despite a strong youth-driven campaign.
