The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu has said that military defeat remains Nigeria’s approach to tackling terrorism, declared that the federal government will not engage in negotiations or mediation with terrorist groups.
Speaking with journalists on the sidelines of the 21st Extraordinary Session of the African Union Assembly of Heads of State and Government in Luanda, Angola, Ojukwu em0hasised that, the minister, terrorists do not respond to negotiation, mediation or appeals to their compassion, stressing that Nigeria will continue with a firm security response.
According to her, “The only language terrorists understand is the language of defeat, and this is what Nigeria intends to make clear,” Ojukwu said. Adding that Nigeria used the AU summit to communicate its position on terrorism and regional security, while backing stronger continental efforts to prevent conflicts and combat violent extremism.
