Kanu scores on opening day of new season

Super Falcons forward Uchenna Kanu is delighted to score a goal to help her NWSL team Racing Louisville SC play out a 2-2 draw at home with Orlando Pride.

The former Tigres of Mexico striker scored in the 19th minute to give her team a 2-0 lead but the visitors came back to scored two goals.

“It was exciting to get started. I think the team really worked hard. I am proud of the girls, unfortunately we didn’t get the three point we planned for,” she said after the game.

“I am excited to get my first goal in the first game of the season. And kudos to Alexa for the assist, she was full of running and I was there at the right spot and the right time to score the goal.

“We will look back on our mistakes and get better. It’s a long season.”

Kanu has played for Seviila (Spain), Linkoping FC (Sweden) and Tigress (Mexico).

She has 31 caps with 10 goals for Nigeria.
