In an effort to strengthening border security following the recent coordinated assaults yhat left residents fearful and heightened security efforts along the Kano–Katsina axis, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano state has announced the state government plans to purchase drones and additional logistics to boost surveillance and rapid-response operations in border communities affected by rising bandit attacks.

The decision comes after his assessment visit to Joint Task Force (JTF) bases in Tsanyawa and Shanono. During the visit, Yusuf urged residents to support security agencies with reliable intelligence on bandit movements, noting that such cooperation is vital to preventing further attacks. He also revealed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had responded positively when briefed on the escalating situation and had pledged federal backing for the state’s security initiatives.
The governor charged the JTF to intensify operations aimed at rescuing kidnapped victims from the affected communities, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to providing all necessary welfare and logistical support to frontline operatives. He described the recent wave of violence as unusual for Kano State and assured citizens that the government is working closely with security agencies to restore stability.
While touring the affected areas, Yusuf met with families of abducted residents, offering condolences and assuring them that efforts to secure the safe return of their loved ones were being strengthened. Recent attacks in Tsanyawa and Shanono reportedly resulted in the abduction of between five and ten persons, with one woman killed during the incidents.
