An Israeli air strike in Khan Younis, Gaza, has killed senior Hamas political leader Salah al-Bardaweel and his wife, according to Hamas officials. The attack is part of Israel’s renewed military operations in Gaza, which resumed after a nearly two-month ceasefire collapsed.

Hamas has accused Israel of violating the truce agreement brokered by Qatar, Egypt, and the U.S., while Israel blames Hamas for refusing to extend the ceasefire. Over the past 24 hours, 32 Palestinians have reportedly been killed across the region.
Bardaweel, a high-ranking political figure and former spokesperson for Hamas, is among about ten Hamas officials killed since Tuesday. The Israeli military has been targeting Hamas since the group’s attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, which resulted in 1,200 deaths and 251 hostages. In response, Israel has carried out extensive strikes, with the Hamas-run health ministry reporting over 49,500 Palestinian deaths and widespread destruction in Gaza.
