IOC Recognizes World Boxing as New Governing Body

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has provisionally recognized World Boxing as the new governing body for the sport at future Olympic Games.

This decision follows the IOC’s severance of ties with the International Boxing Association (IBA) due to financial, governance, and ethical concerns. The IBA, led by Russian official Umar Kremlev, was replaced after the IOC took charge of boxing at the Paris Olympics.

Founded in 2023, World Boxing includes 78 member nations, including the U.S., U.K., France, Germany, Australia, and Brazil.

IOC President Thomas Bach had previously emphasized the need for a reliable governing body to secure boxing’s place at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. The IOC praised World Boxing’s commitment to good governance and compliance with international standards.
