The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said it is considering to hold bye elections and rerun elections to fill 34 vacancies in both the state and National Assemblies across the country in the first week of February, 2024.
Chairman of the commission, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu stated this at a meeting with leaders of political parties on monday in Abuja to prepare for the elections.
Prof. Yakubu disclosed that the commission has decided lthat only candidates and political parties that participated in the last general elections will be allowed to participate in the rerun elections, while political parties are allowed to conduct their party primaries to present candidates for the bye elections.
Prof. Yakubu further revealed that the Commission has also decided to conduct both Bye elections and rerun elections made up of one in the Senate, 11 Federal Constituencies and 22 state constituencies. on the same day.
