Indian couples in US rush for C-section to beat Trump’s citizenship deadline

Indian couples in the US are heading to maternity clinics and are asking for preterm births this coming after US President Donald Trump’s executive order on ending birthright citizenship from February 20.

Dr SD Rama, who works at a maternity clinic in New Jersey, said she has received many requests for preterm deliveries. “A woman who is seven months pregnant came with her husband to schedule an early delivery. She’s due in March,”

Rama said women opting for C-sections are primarily in their eighth or ninth month of pregnancy, though a few are still weeks away from reaching full term

The doctors are concerned about the health of the mother and the child during this time
