Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has emphasized that his political position has not changed despite ongoing rumours and reaffirmed his membership and loyalty to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stating that he remains comfortable in the PDP.
Speaking to journalists at the State House, Abuja, during a visit to the Presidential Villa, Govermor Makinde noted that Nigeria may sometimes require a bipartisan approach to governance, where parties work together in the national interest rather than operate in isolation. According to him, collaboration between political actors should not be misinterpreted as a sign of defection, but rather as a necessary step toward addressing national challenges collectively.
Makinde’s comments followed reports that President Bola Tinubu held separate meetings with him and Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, at the Presidential Villa. The meetings come amid political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections. While Makinde remains one of the few PDP governors and is believed to have presidential ambitions, Mutfwang has reportedly defected to the ruling APC, making Thursday’s visit his first known meeting with Tinubu since the move.
