Celebration turned into tragedy in Idimu, Alimosho Local Government Area, Lagos State, when four people were electrocuted leaving the community in mourning.

The sad accident occurred during a chieftaincy title celebration on Tuesday, November 11. Describing how the it happened, eyewitnesses said the incident happened after a truck delivering sand was blocked by a canopy set up for the party. In an attempt to lift the canopy and allow the truck to pass, the metal frame of the canopy accidentally touched a live electrical wire, resulting in the immediate electrocution of the four individuals.
The motor boy died instantly at the scene, while the other three victims were rushed to a nearby hospital, where one occupant of the truck was confirmed dead on arrival. The three injured party guests are currently receiving medical treatment.
Residents expressed shock and sadness over the incident, with some recounting personal encounters with the deceased motor boy just minutes before the tragedy. The remains of the deceased were later taken away by the family for burial.
This incident highlights ongoing concerns about the unsafe state of electrical infrastructure in Lagos and the lack of strict enforcement of safety regulations. It follows a similar fatal electrocution earlier in the year involving an electrician, underscoring the urgent need for improved management of electrical systems to prevent further loss of life.
