The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has disclosed the suspension of a director in the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) for involving in granting “temporary approvals” to commercial operators on areas reserved as green zones.
Wike disclosed this during a media chat, stating that the director was suspended in accordance with civil service rules. He said the official was allegedly involved in granting “temporary approvals” to commercial operators on areas reserved as green zones.
The minister also revealed that another official had faced disciplinary action for allegedly reallocating park land under the guise of security clearing. The actions form part of the FCTA’s intensified enforcement against illegal encroachment on green areas, parks and waterways in Abuja.
The development comes amid investigations into recent flooding along the Airport Road axis and Lokogoma District. Wike said preliminary findings indicated that violations of the Abuja Master Plan, including structures built on waterways and designated road corridors, may have worsened the flooding. He warned that structures found obstructing waterways would be demolished.
