Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has pledged assistance to victims of a devastating rainstorm that destroyed at least 50 houses in Ipoti, Ejiyan, Owatedo, and Odo Owa Ekiti in Ijero Local Government Area. The storm, which struck on Wednesday evening, left many residents homeless.

During a visit on Thursday, Deputy Governor Monisade Afuye, representing Oyebanji, sympathized with the victims and assured them that the State Emergency Management Agency would assess the damage and provide support for rebuilding efforts. She urged landlords to prioritize building maintenance to prevent future damage.
Oyebanji also encouraged tree planting as a preventive measure and called on traditional rulers to promote the practice. The Olupoti of Ipoti Ekiti, Oba Oladipupo Kolade, and the Oloja-Owa of Owatedo, Oba Adebayo Adewole, described the incident as tragic, particularly for women and children, and commended the governor’s swift response.
