Social critic and lawyer, Sir Ifeanyi Ejiofor, has strongly criticized the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, for allegedly spending hundreds of millions of naira monthly on what he describes as an unnecessary and extravagant media chat. In a statement circulated to journalists via WhatsApp, Ejiofor condemned the move as insensitive and misaligned with Nigeria’s current economic challenges, stating that it offers little value to the public while wasting critical national resources.
Ejiofor emphasized the disconnect between Wike’s media activities and the harsh realities facing ordinary Nigerians, many of whom struggle with rising inflation, stagnant wages, and inadequate access to basic services like healthcare and education. He argued that the funds allocated for a single media edition could instead be used to provide relief to flood victims, improve dilapidated schools, or support malnourished populations in Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps.
Calling for immediate intervention, Ejiofor urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to rein in Wike’s actions and redirect public spending toward essential services. He described the situation as a moment requiring humility, accountability, and leadership focused on the needs of the people—not self-promotion. Ejiofor concluded by insisting that Nigerians deserve better governance, especially during such economically trying times.
