Court Orders EFCC to Release Aisha Achimugu Within 24 Hours

The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to release socialite and businesswoman Aisha Achimugu within 24 hours. Justice Inyang Ekwo issued the directive on Wednesday and instructed all parties, particularly the EFCC, to return to court on May 2 with a compliance report. This comes after EFCC operatives presented Achimugu in court as earlier ordered.

Justice Ekwo had initially mandated Achimugu to appear before the EFCC on Tuesday, following claims that she had fled the country. Although she honored the directive and arrived at the EFCC office, she was reportedly arrested upon arrival around 5 a.m. and placed in custody. Achimugu appeared in court on Wednesday accompanied by two female EFCC officers, as part of the judge’s requirement for a status report.
