Two men, Buhari Abdullahi and Umar Usman, have been convicted and sentenced by the Kano State High Court for impersonating officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The duo was arraigned by the EFCC’s Kano Zonal Directorate on a one-count charge of false representation as EFCC investigators using forged identity cards.

According to the charge, the offense occurred in May 2025 when the accused falsely paraded themselves as EFCC staff within Kano State. Their actions violated Section 132 of the Penal Code Law, which prohibits impersonation and the use of false identification to deceive others. The forged EFCC ID cards were key evidence in establishing the fraud they committed.
Upon their arraignment, both Abdullahi and Usman pleaded guilty to the charge. The prosecuting counsel, Idris I. Haruna, presented the facts before the court and urged the presiding judge, Justice Nasiru Saminu, to convict the offenders based on their guilty plea and the evidence provided.
Justice Saminu subsequently convicted the two men and sentenced them to six months in prison. However, the court also gave them an option to pay a fine of N50,000 each in place of serving the jail term. Their conviction followed their arrest by EFCC operatives who discovered their criminal activities.
