The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, has asked the Federal High Court in Abuja to dismiss, the N1 billion fundamental rights enforcement suit that the former governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, filed against him and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), described it as lacking in merit.
Nasir El-Rufai’s alleged wiretapping case involving former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, is expected to come up for ruling on October 26, 2026, before the Federal High Court in Abuja.
The case concerns allegations of unlawful interception of communications involving National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu.
The Department of State Services (DSS), which is prosecuting the case, closed its case in June after presenting its witnesses and evidence. El-Rufai’s legal team subsequently indicated that it would file a no-case submission, arguing that the prosecution had not presented sufficient evidence to warrant him being called to defend himself.
The development comes as El-Rufai continues to face separate legal proceedings, including a fundamental rights suit against the ICPC, police and Attorney-General of the Federation. That case was on September 21 adjourned to October 27, 2026, for definite hearing.
