Container Truck Crash Causes Major Gridlock at Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge

The Lagos State Government has urged motorists to seek alternative routes after a container-laden truck crashed into the steel height barrier at the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge near Admiralty Road on Tuesday evening. The 40-foot container became lodged beneath the structure, destroying the barrier and blocking access to the bridge. The incident severely disrupted traffic flow, resulting in major gridlock across Lekki, Ikoyi, and surrounding areas.

Emergency response teams from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) were quickly deployed to manage the situation and clear the obstruction. As of 10 a.m. Wednesday, traffic was being diverted to the Lekki Phase 1 tollgate corridor.

Taofiq Adebayo, Director of Public Affairs for LASTMA, urged motorists to remain calm and exercise caution while navigating the affected areas. He also advised commuters not yet caught in traffic to use alternative routes, including Ikoyi Kingsway Road and other link roads, to ease congestion and ensure a quicker commute. Authorities are working to remove the trapped vehicle and restore normal traffic conditions as swiftly as possible.
