A tragic accident occurred in the early hours of Sunday when an Adamawa Express commercial bus plunged into the Namnai River in Gassol Local Government Area of Taraba State. Reports from security expert Zagazola Makama on X revealed that the bus lost balance while attempting to cross a collapsed section of the Namnai Bridge, causing it to tumble into the river.

Eyewitnesses recounted that the bridge, which collapsed over a year ago, has remained unrepaired despite several government assurances. Residents described the neglected structure as a major risk to lives and property, noting that several accidents had occurred there in the past. The recent tragedy has once again highlighted the urgent need for reconstruction of the bridge.
As of the time of reporting, the number of passengers and casualties had not been confirmed. Graphic images shared online showed recovered bodies and the wreckage of the bus. Efforts to reach the state police spokesperson, Yahaya Suleiman, were unsuccessful, as his phone line did not connect and text messages were unanswered.
