The strong presence of Burna Boy in the 2026 Grammy Awards nominations highlights the growing global influence of Afrobeats and African contemporary music as he has reached another historic milestone, becoming the first Nigerian artist to secure five career Grammy nominations in album categories.
Burna Boy’s latest work, “No Sign of Weakness” has been nominated for Best Global Music Album at the upcoming 2026 Grammy Awards, marking yet another recognition of his artistry on the world stage. He faces competition from international acts such as Youssou N’Dour, Shakti, Anoushka Shankar, Caetano Veloso and Maria Bethânia, among others.
He has also previously been recognized for his contribution to Justin Bieber’s Justice (Triple Chucks Deluxe) in 2022. With the two new nominations this year—Best Global Music Album and Best African Music Performance—Burna Boy’s total Grammy nominations rise to 13, including his 2021 Grammy win for Twice As Tall.
Alongside Burna Boy, Nigerian stars Davido, Ayra Starr, and Wizkid are also in contention, while other African acts like Eddy Kenzo and Tyla continue to gain international prominence. The award ceremony is scheduled to take place on February 1, 2026, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
