At least 14 bodies have been recovered following a deadly attack by suspected Boko Haram terrorists on mourners in Kopl village, Chibok Local Government Area of Borno State. The assault occurred around 6 p.m. on Monday during a prayer gathering for a deceased community member. Initially, seven deaths were reported, but the number increased as rescue operations continued. The attackers also burned a church and over ten homes, leaving the entire village displaced.

The incident follows closely on the heels of another tragic attack along the Gamboru Ngala–Kala Balge road, where an improvised explosive device (IED) killed several travelers and injured many. Victims from the Chibok attack were taken to Mubi General Hospital in Adamawa State for treatment, while the community faces increasing fear and displacement due to the persistent insecurity.
Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, reacting to the surge in violence across Southern Borno, described the situation as unbearable, noting that over 100 people have been killed in the past month across various towns including Sabon Gari, Izge, Pulka, and Damboa. He lamented the lack of adequate security response and the continued loss of lives, including vigilante members and civilians.
