The House of Representatives has passed a bill for second reading seeking to establish Ecclesiastical Courts of Appeal in Nigeria.

Sponsored by Francis Waive (Ughelli Udu Federal Constituency), the bill aims to amend the Constitution to create Christian courts at the state and federal levels to handle cases related to Christian personal law and ecclesiastical matters.
A similar bill was introduced in 2016 but stalled at the second reading. The proposed courts would complement regular courts in adjudicating faith-based disputes among individuals and groups who voluntarily submit to their jurisdiction.
