Asagba of Asaba Declares Zero Tolerance for Drug Abuse Among Title Holders

During a courtesy visit by the Delta State Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Halilu Hamidu, the Asagba of Asaba, Prof. Epiphany Azinge, SAN, issued a stern warning that any titled man in Asaba found to be involved in drug trafficking or abuse would be stripped of their title. He stated that this measure, backed by evidence, is part of the community’s broader initiative to cleanse the town of drug peddlers, barons, and addicts.

According to the monarch, Asaba has witnessed remarkable improvements due to these community-led efforts, making the town significantly calmer in terms of drug-related activities.

The Asagba expressed concern about the absence of an NDLEA office in Asaba, which he believes hinders timely and effective enforcement. He disclosed that the Oshimili South Local Government Chairman, Dr. Obi Ezenyili, had offered office space for the NDLEA to enhance operations. Additionally, he warned about possible compromise within security agencies and urged the NDLEA to operate with integrity while taking these concerns seriously.

In response, Commander Hamidu acknowledged the challenge of the NDLEA’s headquarters being located in Ogwashi-Uku, which slows their responsiveness in Asaba. He praised the Asagba’s commitment to the anti-drug campaign and appealed for continued support to solve logistical problems. Emphasizing the importance of community involvement, he called for collective efforts from all stakeholders to make Delta State drug-free.
