Students of Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua, staged a protest on Monday over rising criminal attacks that have claimed the lives of five students in the past year.

Led by SUG President Geoffrey George, the students also condemned police brutality and extortion, holding placards with messages like “End Police Brutality Now” and “Protect, Save, Don’t Abuse.”
They accused the police of failing to protect them, allowing hoodlums to rob and kill students, especially those living off-campus. The protest defied warnings from the school management, as students insisted their safety concerns must be heard.
In response, Akwa Ibom State Police Command said Commissioner Baba Mohammed Azare has invited the students for a meeting to address their grievances.
