The Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams, has called for peace between the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, and the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade, following a dispute over the conferment of a chieftaincy title. The Ooni had bestowed the Okanlomo of Oodua title on Ibadan-based business mogul, Dotun Sanusi, during the launch of a social media and business platform in Ibadan.

The action sparked controversy, with the Alaafin issuing a 48-hour ultimatum demanding the Ooni reverse the title or face consequences. Responding through his spokesman, Moses Olafare, the Ooni stated that he would not be drawn into threats, insisting the matter should be left to public opinion.
In a statement, Adams revealed that he had contacted Yoruba elders and reached out to both palaces to calm tensions. He stressed that disunity among the monarchs could embolden external forces, urging an amicable resolution to preserve harmony within Yorubaland.
Adams further described the Ooni and the Alaafin as custodians of Yoruba culture and heritage whose unity is vital to the stability of the region. He warned that at a time when Yorubaland faces pockets of insecurity, the monarchs must work together to protect the people and prevent external infiltration.
