The Oba of Benin, Ewuare II, has reaffirmed his commitment to protecting the state’s land integrity, firmly stressed that no part of Edo State will be ceded to secessionist groups seeking to create new states through the state’s borders.

Addressing members of the Edo State Boundary Committee, led by Deputy Governor Dennis Idahosa, the monarch expressed his surprise at the rise of self-determination movements and linked it to recent unrest involving the Benin Dukes and the Benin Traditional Council.
Oba Ewuare II urging the committee to ensure that no part of Edo land is compromised and expressed full support for the Boundary Committee, which is tasked with resolving disputes involving Edo’s land. The monarch offered prayers for the committee’s success and encouraged them to act in the best interest of the people of Edo. He emphasized that no matter the circumstances, the state’s borders should remain intact and should not be altered for any reason.
During the meeting, Deputy Governor Idahosa shared the committee’s goals, including addressing injustices caused by oil companies and reclaiming resources unlawfully ceded to other entities. He assured the Oba that the administration was focused on resolving the state’s boundary disputes and returning resources that had been wrongfully taken.
