Army Vows Justice for Killings in Benue and Plateau, Seeks Public, Media Support

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, has assured Nigerians that the Army will bring to justice those responsible for recent killings in Benue, Plateau, and other parts of North-Central Nigeria. Speaking through Maj. Gen. Obinna Onubogu during a media chat in Akure, Oluyede said the Army is fully deployed and committed to stopping the violence. He emphasized that President Tinubu has issued clear directives for security agencies to act decisively.

Oluyede called on local communities and stakeholders to support military operations by providing credible and timely intelligence, noting that the Army cannot be everywhere at once. He stressed that poor information from locals often delays their response time and must improve for the military to be effective. The Army plans to implement more robust security arrangements in Benue in the coming weeks.

The COAS also urged the media to verify information before publishing and to avoid sensational reporting that could jeopardize national security. He expressed concern over the spread of misinformation on social media and appealed for stronger collaboration between the military and the press. Oluyede commended the media’s support so far and encouraged deeper cooperation to strengthen Nigeria’s overall security.
