Onovo Calls for Opposition Coalition to Defeat Tinubu in 2027

Former presidential candidate Chief Martin Onovo has asserted that no single political party can defeat President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections. In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Onovo emphasized the need for a robust alliance among opposition parties, describing the coalition effort led by former PDP candidate Atiku Abubakar as essential. He drew from his experience as a key figure in the formation of the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP), stating that only a united opposition can present a formidable challenge to the ruling party.

Onovo strongly believes that a well-structured and committed coalition could decisively win the 2027 elections if internal sabotage is avoided. He expressed confidence that such unity could deliver an overwhelming victory against the APC. However, he warned that the success of the coalition hinges on disciplined collaboration and clear focus. According to him, a “united minority is stronger than a divided majority,” and thus opposition parties must put aside differences and act collectively to unseat the ruling administration.

Assessing the Tinubu administration’s performance midway through its term, Onovo criticized the government for failing to improve security and provide basic needs to Nigerians. He advised the President to focus on tackling insecurity, reducing poverty, and appointing technocrats over loyalists. Onovo also called for stronger anti-corruption measures and policies to reduce inequality, noting that strategic leadership and ethical governance are crucial to resolving the nation’s economic and social issues.
