Parent Allegedly Hires Thugs to Assault Vice Principal over Exam Cheating Prevention

A disturbing incident occurred at Complete Child Development College in Akure, Ondo State, where the Vice Principal, Mr. Rotifa, was allegedly assaulted by thugs hired by a parent. The attack reportedly followed Mr. Rotifa’s attempt to prevent a student from cheating during the ongoing West African Examination Council (WAEC) exams. An android phone was discovered with the student, a clear violation of examination rules, prompting the Vice Principal to confiscate the device.

According to a preliminary investigation by the Ondo State Ministry of Education, the student’s mother visited the school and engaged in a heated confrontation with school authorities, insisting on the return of the seized phone. The school’s proprietor eventually returned the phone to the parent. The student’s brother, identified as a former student of the school, later appeared on the premises, harassed Mr. Rotifa, and issued threats against him.

Following the threats, the Vice Principal was advised to report the matter to the police. While being escorted by officers in a police van, the suspects intercepted the vehicle, forcefully removed Mr. Rotifa, and violently attacked him. He was subsequently hospitalized for treatment and later discharged, though he has not returned home due to safety concerns.

Efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend those involved in the assault. The Ondo State Ministry of Education and the school’s management are also implementing safety measures for staff and students for the remainder of the WAEC examination period. Attempts to obtain comments from the school’s principal were unsuccessful, as the administration has remained silent on the matter.
