Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum, has strongly denied accusations of incompetence and alleged collaboration with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

In an interview with BBC Hausa, Damagum rejected claims that he is working against the PDP’s interest or serving as a puppet of the APC. Referring to rumors of a secret meeting with President Bola Tinubu in England, he reaffirmed his loyalty, citing his unbroken membership in the PDP since 1999.
Damagum also addressed criticisms of his relationship with Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and a former PDP stalwart now aligned with the APC. He acknowledged knowing Wike but denied any improper alliance, arguing that many within the PDP also had ties with the minister. He claimed that his refusal to be manipulated by internal party factions has fueled much of the criticism against him.
Reacting to defections within the PDP, Damagum expressed regret but denied that those who left were mistreated. He emphasized that internal disputes are natural in political organizations, highlighting the resilience and unity of the PDP despite challenges. Damagum underscored his commitment to principled leadership and maintaining party integrity, especially in the wake of electoral setbacks.
